OK, so I was listening to Podcast #9 today, I've listened to 1-9 finally, every second of each podcast.. LOVE IT.
Rex talks about the origins of vampires being about bad people of power, namely that queen lady that would kidnap and kill kids and bring them to her castle for weird acts.....
It reminded me of the time i was in college, I was taking a Bio Chemistry class and the professor of the class was from one of those eastern block countries. Born and raised, had the accent and tons of stories from there. Czech or slovak, hungary, whatever it was... ANyways, I remember her saying that Vampires and the whole myth of them started with the fact that there was some kind of mineral deficiency going on over there at the time..... This disease/deficiency caused people to be VERY sensitive to the sun, Hence they would only come out at night to hunt or to butcher their cattle etc.... ALSO, their bones/teeth would be red in color due to some type of weird deficiency.. So imagine tons of these people that would only come out at night because they were too sensitive of the sun due to some health deficiency, with very white skin, as well as their teeth would be red in color. And boom, the vampire legend starts. Perhaps one of those people also ate mold and started eating a cow uncooked on the farm and someone saw him?
That's the story i heard anyways, from some professor that was from that area. Just thought I'd share!
