I'm not a citizen of California, but I'm considering moving there in 2019 to vote in favor of CALEXIT, and then immediately moving out of the state. :)
On the downside, my bottom line would find a new bottom.
Question: Could this start another civil war? Would Texas then become more serious about their own secession?
Thoughts?
Interesting idea, but do you think your sanity will last long enough to become a resident of CA?
I am a citizen of California and am quite sure your sanity will evaporate once you move here, good luck!
Dear Readers,
I have been conversing with a few of you about this issue in the "Secret of the Grey's" section of this forum (not sure how we went from aliens to secession though I know there's a joke in it) and feel this is probably a better place for this topic. In the latest post, Kacie suggeted this subject would be brought up in the next upload. I'm probably a bit late to get my two cents in but, here goes:
As is suggested by the comments in tkneeds' origianl post, California has been a hot topic for some time. It is, reputedly, a bastion of liberalism and, politically speaking, this is true. It is also true that 33% of votes cast for president of the United States by Californians in the 2016 were for Donald Trump. It is true that California is the most populous state in the Union and that population is diverse. It is also true that the overwhelming majority of that population is concentrated in just two urban areas: the San Francisco bay area and Los Angeles/San Diego area. The remainder of the state is comparably populated to the rest of the intermountain western U.S.. Are you smelling what I'm stepping in? I could draw similar comparisons to Denver, Colorado, Seattle, Washington, Las Vegas, Nevada and Portland, Oregon.
Take a moment to dial back the magnification on your scopes and consider an alternate view:
If there's a problem here, it isn't California versus the rest of the country. It's urban versus rural America. Granted, this may not be as pronounced in Colorado, Washington, Nevada, Oregon and beyond but, it will be before you know it.
So, if your chompin at the bit for secession, why don't we start with something I call the City State Solution: urban areas over a certain size will become states and rural areas will remain or become other states. It would take some thought to devise a way to maintain a balance of power in Congress but, it could be done.
Let the debate begin, BWAH HA HA HA HA !
So basically, you're saying not to throw the baby out with the bath water. Interesting...
On first thought, maybe cities with a population of over a million could be allowed to form a state. Let's make it easy. Since one-third of Californians voted for Trump, let's make it a 33% threshold. If one-third of registered voters in the city vote to form a state, the city becomes a state. If one -third of the voters in the state as a whole want to boot the city, out they go! I'm thinking that cities like L. A., Chicago, and New York be allocated one Representative, and one Senator. Let them have a voice, but minimize their impact on us regular folks.
Federal aid would be allocated based on the city/states' adherence to the values enumerated in Constitution and in the Bill of Rights, but with a twist. First violation, lose 50 percent of your aid. Second violation, lose 90 percent of what was originally allocated. Third violation, no more aid for ten years, or longer if more violations come to light. Make it hurt, big time, sez I!
My guess is that we went from aliens to secession via hyper jump, since last I heard, your Governor had a rather spacey nickname. Something about moonbeams? And you have to admit, some rather spacey ideas seem to become mainstream in the large urban areas of your fair state! ;-)
By the way, why not copy and paste what you posted on "The Secret of the Grays" here? It may keep this side of the forums going. It will definately be more entertaining, and enlightening.
Thanks for the cut and paste tip, Geoff.
"Governor Moonbeam", HA HA HA! He'll never live that down, poor bas... I mean, poor guy.
Yup, lots o' crazy ideas come outa the Golden State. California's "tolerate/embrace everything mantra may have done wonders for the arts and entertainment industry but, as far as my experiences go, the result has been to muddy the waters to the point where an average work-a-day Joe can't see which direction he's swimming in!
Monetary penalties for missuse of federal funds and or abuse of power? Gee, maybe that will get Sacramento's attention.........oh Mr. President, where are you?!
To give the Readers of this post an idea of how dire circumstances are, the California State Legislature, where Democrats now have a supermajority, has gone so far as to hire former Obama administraion Attorney General Eric Holder to provide advice on "our efforts to resist any attempts to roll back the progress California has made". What progress, I ask?! I could give Stevie Wonder a ride west, through Nevada and HE could tell me EXACTLY when we crossed over the state line just by how many potholes we drive through!
It's truly a David versus Goliath scenario for the few Republicans at the state capitol, HELP! Thank Heaven for the NRA/ILA! If it were not for their efforts, we would be defending our lives and property with sticks (provided they came from a sustainably managed, environmentaly friendly resource) GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGG!
Having been born and raised in SoCal, now almost 60yrs. Personally i am in the fifth year of my five year plan to exit the state due to the insuing insanity of the down hill rocket slide of certain implosion for the past 40yrs. God has shown me a plan. I believe he has had my back every step of the way And the light at the end of the tunnel shines as bright as the Sun itself. The day is close and filled with his grace.
Yeah, I left there pretty quickly. On the exit note, would never happen as the importance of the ports commercially and militarily. The biggest issue is many people vote for a the crazy politicians and then complain, move elsewhere and try the same path and wonder why issues arise in ty new place.
Agreed, several states have been on the losing side of this issue. Sadly you can't fix stupid.
This is a California proposal I can get behind. Not a secession, but a breakup of the state into two states, east and west California. West California gets Orange and San Diego Counties. Basically it isolates the nutballs to mitigate the damage they are doing.
