FYI, for those who couldn't make RX17, James Yeager has posted a series of videos on his You Tube channel of Rex and himself discussing the class and equipment. While long time fans of Rex know his views on many things, those who are new to Rex may find the videos on James' channel enlightening.
Just for fun, watch Rex's video on his thoughts on James and see if you think Rex can read people or not. ;-)
Good interviews!
I'm sure Mr. Yeager knows his audience, but it seemed very basic, if not amputated. There was a lot of info that was just touched on or glazed over that could really have made a difference to viewers not so familiar. I know I much prefer understanding all the minutia because I just work better if I have a better understanding of why exactly that recommendation was made. But, on the other hand, I guess they could just go watch Rex's videos for that information.
Rex was such a good sport! I can't help but interject that if I was facing a Japanese incursion on the mainland USA, I would take an out of shape, 2017 Rex 10/10 times over a squad of tacticool gym meatheads. You can't make up for brains and values.
I've forgotten which video it was, but James said his folks don't do math!
I'm pretty sure Rex said somewhere that the Japanese didn't invade the mainland because of all the riflemen who were here.
That being said, I'd take a few hundred of Rex trained snipers, backed up by a couple of thousand James trained warriors to mop up what slipped through the cracks if I had to lead a defense force.
I don't usually read the comments on Jame's channel, but several did thank him for introducing them to Rex. The biker gang has new recruits!
They both have a purpose.
I hate to say it but probably one of the reason I enjoy shooting a bolt action is because I am out of shape. Running and gunning ant going to happen
Lol.
Seriously I need to do better there really is no excuse.
Adams812,
Adams812, I no longer run and gun either-more like a swift walk. I'm at the point in my life where a (relatively) nice, leisurely stroll to my FFP is preferable to a heart stopping, adrenaline dumping race to cover, while trying to maintain peripheral awareness and sending rounds down range with minute of bad guy accuracy!
While I was doing PT after having a hip replaced, one of the therapists cautioned me that running would cause the new parts to wear out sooner. After I got up from the floor, I told her that if she heard of me running anywhere, it was because I was leaving a burning building, or someone was shooting at me and cover was not close by! I'd quit running at least three years before the surgery!

Just watched the new(two days ago, I didn't see it till just now.) James Yeager video with Rex. The 243 part had me rolling on the floor! That is one of the reasons my next bolt rifle will probably be 243 win. It's the sleeper LR cartridge, and I might be able to actually afford to shoot it! On top of that, I already have a lee hand loader for it.
Yaeger is cool and I intend to fly to Tennessee to take one of his pistol classes -- but I find it amusing when it appears to me that he tries to "mount" and dominate everyone he does an interview with. The guy is pure Alpha.
Rex and James are certainly two different types, and we need both. In listening to the interviews and conversations on YT, I picked up on the differences in "firing solutions" that illustrates the two types perfectly.
Problem: Fudgebar up to no good 1200 meters away needs to be neutralized.
Rex: Take readings on temp, humidity, barometric pressure, ammo temp, wind speed and direction, and firing angle. Consult ballistic table for 7mm-300 and calculate firing solution. Engage when ready.
James: Get in car. Drive 1199 meters. Shoot fudgebar in the face with 9mm. No math required.
Two different personalities with different schools of thought. Personally I identify more with Rex, but I also appreciate and respect Mr. Yaeger's skillset and way of doing things. I hope to attend classes put on by BOTH of these men. The latter because, well, you just can't carry a bull barrel .30-06 everywhere you go.
Copperhead: Free advice... take "The Fight" and Fighting Pistol. That will change your life. Then come and take one of our live fire classes. That will change your abilities.
I'm familiar with Fighting Pistol. That's the one I was particularly interested in. What, pray tell, is "The Fight"? I don't remember seeing that one...
