I saw that video a few weeks back. Mr. Spuhr himself says that quality rings don't need lapping, as do several other manufacturers( and Rex). From what I hear, some may even void your warranty if you lap their rings.
If you happen to come across a set of really good rings that need lapping, I'd suggest sending them back and getting what you paid for, unless time is a huge factor.
