So I now have pretty much everything squared away on the gear list for the live fire class with the exception of a spotter and a tripod. The cost is a bit daunting after dropping a lot of coin already. I do not want to compromise but cant spend more than $2k. Would prefer more compact unit , could take hunting and on the side bird watch. First post so be nice, what say the Rex forum?

Bushnell has a compact scope with a mil reticle, but I doubt it can compete with these. It's about $450, whereas The Opolyth mil reticle eye piece is over $500. There are other spotting scopes around with mil reticles, such as Vortex and Swaro, but I think they're a bit more than the Optolyth.
Thanks Geoff, I saw that video a little while ago. I guess they are a bit out of my price range. I like the mini but too bad it does not have a mil reticle. I think this is a requirement of mine. Will look at other options for more in the $1-$1.5 K range.
Yep, they are not cheap! Danged things would cost almost as much as my next rifle. Hope you find something good and if you do, let us know.
By the way, the Bushnell had fairly decent glass for out to 300m, but that's the extent of our range at the moment. Not sure how good it is for what Rex has in store.
So I have looked into this and have narrowed it down to the Bushnell Legend T Series spotting scope or the Optilyth one with the ranging reticle. I have read a lot about the Bushnell Legend T and it has received pretty good reviews (like it is on par with some of the $1500 priced options). I will probably go with this for now and upgrade once I save my pennies for the Optilyth. For the tri-pod, I am looking at the Outdoorsman's tripods with a micro panhead. Still have not decided to pull the trigger - another grand is difficult at this point but I figure I will get it eventually so why not now?
We had a Legend T at the last class. It was just fine.
