Scope is for Bergara B14BMP, .308 20", ...shooting on unknown distances, maybe hunting....
mostly not further than 600 m, field use
I can get it for 1600$, 3.5-18x50 for 2050$,
is it the same quality of lens and mechanics?,in a different package only
this is the maximum I can spend, can I buy something better, equally durable for field use
and which are the bad side of this scope(3-18X42); tunel efect on smaller increments, paralaks adjustment...........or it only on first 3 generations
Thanks
Howdy! I'll keep this relatively brief. I don't hunt, but from a quick look at Valdada's site, the 3.5-18X50 is 8 oz. heavier. Looks to me like the 3-18 only comes MOA/MOA? I have the 3.5-18X50 mil/mil, on my semi-auto .308 and have no intention of replacing it with anything else, and during the optics class I took last year, the instructor had the other folks take a look through it to see what top quality glass is all about. :-) He also happens to have an older 3-18X42 scope, so when I take the class again this weekend, I'll ask him what his experience is with that scope and if he would recommend it. Be aware that the "manual" you will get from Valdada leaves a bit to be desired, and that's being generous. They don't tell you that if you loosen the set screws for the turrets too much, they'll fall out, and that's likely to goof up the scope's ability to track accurately. I found that out the hard way, but Valdada sent me a new scope under warranty when they finally got them in.
The Steiner "T-Series" might be something to take a look at, as Rex told us at the seminar in PA.
OK, thanks for the information, let me know the experiences with that old version
As it happens, I ran into him at the range yesterday and asked. Short version, he said the only reason he doesn't use it anymore is that he wanted to try something new, so he put it on his wife's rifle. She kicked every dude's ass-his words, not mine- :-) in the class with it. He used it in a course for several years. Very happy with how it performed! I'n not aware of any place where you can look through the IORs before you buy, but if there's a showroom somewhere that sells quality scopes, like EuroOptic in PA, and Oakland Tactical in MI, I recommend going and taking a gander. My local guy says that it's the "Golden Age" for scopes and the choice of reticle in your price range may be the determining factor. Oh, and he also said you might want to look into the Nightforce NSX, but he wasn't sure what rets were available in that model.
Thank you very much for your information.
3-18 comes with SH reticle, some one complained that it was too tick at maximum magnification, although this may not be a problem since it is the dot in the middle
You're welcome!
If you are pals with the person who says the the ret is too thick at max mag, might I suggest that you ask what size target and at what distance they need 18X ? If you saw it on a forum, I wouldn't bother! ;-) Rex, my local guy, and many others teach that max magnification should be used to identify the target, if need be. Rule of thumb is 1X for every 100 yards, give or take, depending on size/nature of target, shooter's eyes, atmospherics, and glass quality-which is not a problem with the Schott glass. Different scope, but same principal, at the RX1000 in PA-which used to be called the Live Fire- we trued our DOPE at about 1030 yards with clays. Max mag would have obscured the clay and how can one hit a target that they can't see, right? And no, I didn't hit a full clay, but somehow managed to hit a shard-ONCE! :-D By the way, how do you like the Bergara? I wanted the LRP in 6.5 "Bandwagon"/Creedmoor, but the out of town gun store had sold their last one, so I got the LRP Elite, instead. I also talked the owner of a local gun store into trying the HMR in .308, and he loves it!
I am in a country where hunters are very traditional about how the hunting rifle should look, Bergara has been treasured in the eye, but for that money ....is similar to the Mcmilan A3-5, the aluminum chassis in, the adjustability, and the barell on my is from BMP model, 20 "22mm, this is ideal for caliber 308, compactness and everything else.....
I'm in love with my little Spain rifle ... ha ha
I can hardly wait to get in with IOR,
