I am looking at purchasing a new scope. Could one of you explain to me what the difference between a "military" and a "tactical" scope is, such as between a Steiner M5Xi and T5Xi ?

Will depend on each company but essentially similar. I have looked at those two....t5x is similar idea assembled slightly more affordable with a little less qc oversight. Final assembly here with various outsourced parts. Mx has another reticle choice and is German with higher amount paid to quality control. Just a slightly higher tier for the mx vs tx
Thank you ! I assume that must also be the difference between the Schmidt & Bender PMII vs Klassik vs Zenith. What a pity that there is no practical way to compare the optical quality of the different versions !
Yeah it is very hard to find a lot of higher end scopes to compare side by side...some companies definitely change glass quality as you go up their lines
In general, Steiner Military configuration optics are set to more stringent and rugged specs, as defined by military contracts...etc. The tactical series are more geared for folks who are on more of a budget.
Here you find a difference between military and tactical scope both are relatively equal to each other. Exploring more features in easy essay to develop or to find their different key points to create a chart.
