Is there a better value (or recommendation) than the Primary Arms Platinum Series 6-30x56 FFP scope with DEKA Mil Reticle for $1500? My budget is between 1500 & 2000.
Background: I am do my second build. First one was a savage 308 with a SWFA SS 10x42. Which worked well and taught me a lot, as I did not know what I did not know. For my second build, I am building a savage in 6.5 creedmoor. I have $1500 to $2000 budgeted for the scope. I would like better low light performance out of my new scope than my SWFA SS 10x42.
I have the IOR Valdada 3.5-18 x 50 FFP scope. It's mil/mil, and in your price range. The price includes a set of 35mm rings.
I contacted Paul McCoy of PMAC Precision before my purchase and he assured me that the scope will perform well out to 1200 yards on a 6.5 Creedmoor.
Everyone who has looked through the scope is impressed. The reticle design (for me, at least) works well on my .308 as close as point blank range, on out to 500m, which is the limit at the club I belong to. The field of vision seems pretty good.
I used it once just after dusk and once on a night shoot,. The center dot was perfect It's not so good for bright sunlight, but I don't think it's a deal breaker.
The scope is my first designed for precision shooting, but based on my experience so far, I'm pretty sure that when I get my 6.5, another Valdada will be resting on it.
To be honest, these are a pretty incredible value. I would compare them to Nightforce in terms of apparent build quality. I need to do more thorough testing to confirm their tracking precision and repeatability. It would be hard to find a better value in this price range, although IOR Valdada has some pretty sweet optics that would compete pretty well. The PA Platinum is very refined and is very clear, the IOR is a bit beefier and is very rugged with great glass as well. Happy hunting.
I wound up with a used Gen 1 vortex Razor HD ebr-3 a few years ago, for around 1500. It hasn't given me any reason to regret it this far, though they are a couple hundred cheaper now when used. The only thing is sometimes I wish I had heeded Rex's advice and got an apocalypse proof USO st-10. I was stubborn about wanting variable 20 power back then, but its been pretty good for me.
Rex, I still can't find a box test for primary arms platinum turrets anywhere on line. Have you learned any more about th turrets on this scope? I'd rather spend a little more and get a proven scope if there isn't a bit more info on the turret reliability on the PA 6-30x56.
The PA Platinum is actually pretty nice, and the 6-30 DEKA is a very good optic for $1500. This is the SWFA Super Sniper Value of the $1-2K world. Very good choice for the money. Could be priced at $2000 easy if PA got cocky one day. Excellently conceived reticle design for those who use the reticle for ranging. Right up my alley. Stand by for review soon!
I ended up buying the deka model. Still haven't taken it to the range but hoping to get a chance next weekend. It does look well built next to my Nightforce but maybe it's just the 34mm tube next to the smaller 30mm tube on the nxs.
Ive been trying for a year now to get a primary arms 6-30x56 scope in Canada any ideas sos

Howdy Rex, have you been able to put the Platinum Deka through the wringer yet? Would love to read, watch or listen to an in depth review of that scope. Also, would you recommend a Creedmoor or a 7mm-08 to go under that scope as a good match to get the most out of both rifle and scope? Thanks for your time!
I would like to know as we’ll plan to buy one in about a month to go on a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5c and would like to know if the scope is worth the money and I would like to be able to see my paper targets out to 300/500 yards save gas and keep me from driving every 3/5 rounds to check targets thanks for any advice and help
