I am sure you are getting tired of hearing these questions.... I am hoping to get into long range tactical shooting, I have a Ruger Precision chambered in a 6.5 Creedmor. Every store I go into pushes the Vortex. I have a pro deal with Vortex and Steiner so the prices are:
Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27x56Riflescope w/ EBR-2C Ret. (MRAD, FFP)
$2,039.99
Steiner M5Xi 5-25x56mm MSR
$2,219.99
And I hope to put them in a Sphur mount.
I do wear glasses and am old (48) so the eyes can't see the fine reticles as well anymore. Any thoughts?
Thanks!!
Old??? You are a mere youth, comparatively speaking!
Oh, you wanted thoughts on the scopes? :-D
If you can compare both at the same time, that would be best. If not, try to decide which reticle seems to fit your eyes better.
After much thought and hand wringing, I decided to go with the Kahles K624i for my 6.5. The glass is every bit as good-to my old eyes-as the glass in my IOR, but the SKMR3 reticle is easier to use when milling targets.
The biggest factor though, was that the tracking is supposed to be 100%, which I haven't gotten to test yet, but will very soon. Yes, it's more expensive, but the Recon was on backorder.
I often wonder why stores seem to push one product over others. The store I bought my scope from let me decide and they had Kahles, Vortex, Nightforce and a few others in stock.
As Rex says, once you buy the scope, vet it to make sure it tracks correctly.
Thanks Geoff! I will have to look at the Kahles.
The Steiner M is going to be more rugged. After my last match I'm a little disheartened on the Razor line. Too many turret issues popping up. Blew the match for more than one shooter. I'm a USO and IOR fan myself.
Frank Galli from Snipers hide recently commented that at a recent target shoot. They removed all the shooters scope and did a tracking test only one brand tracked 100% out of all the scopes tested. kahles was 100%.
Thanks for the suggestions! I will have to out Kahles!
