Howdy! Great hearing from you guys in Australia! The Zeiss HD5 is in the Conquest series (of Asian manufacturer last time I checked) thus it won't carry that same quality level made famous by the German made Zeiss lineup. That being said, these Conquest optics exhibit descent mid-tier-2 quality overall in my opinion - synonymous with Leupold, Leica, etc... The design/feature set on the Zeiss HD5 5-25X50 HT RZ-800 would call for use of the reticle as a primary means of correction, however the reticle being placed in the 2nd focal plane could prove to limit its flexibility at different magnification settings. I would personally prefer a 1st focal plane optic, especially in a scope with a design that encourages the use of the reticle for LR hold-overs. The RZ-1000 features target turrets that offer easier use when adjusting using the indexing method, however, most asian-origin optics struggle in terms of tracking precision when compared to the tier-1 Eurpean designs. All that being said, its a nice optic, and should work fine for medium range hunting applications once you get used to keeping the 2nd focal plane reticle set properly. If you are looking for a scope scope long range shooting, I would gravitate towards something with a feature set more appropriate for that application: You would either need a 1st focal plane if using the reticle for hold overs OR you would need more reliable turret tracking if you plan to dial it in :-) Hope this helps.
Hi Rex thanks for the info your quite right I ended up with a HD5 5-25X50 varmint recital and I love the glass on it works well out to 600m on my .243 T3. So did take your advice so IOR kept jumping up but have a problem the IOR factory at the moment has no supply, anyway I chose the IOR Tactical 4-28x50/IL FFP on a 338 NM medium to long range Samba.
So just have wait and see what happens unless something else pops up around that price cheers Guy's keep on keeping on
