Hey Rex. I'm currently shooting 6.5 creedmoor and it's been very accurate out to 1200 yards. Now looking to stretch it out beyond 1600-1700 yards. I was considering the 7mm REM mag and was curious on your thoughts for this application. The rifle will be for hitting steel mainly. I have a PMII 5-25x56 to top it off so I'm covered on glass. Remington makes an off the shelf heavy barrel 700 'long range' in this caliber and I was looking into that.

I use one to a mile. It's a lot of powder per case so it gets expensive to load for but that's the game in extreme long range. Barrel life is short-ish, I get around 1000-1300 rounds per tube. Recoil is very mild for a magnum and blast isn't so bad so it's pleasant shooting as mags go. Great round out to a mile but slightly abbreviated powder capacity compared to a full length magnum case like a 300wm prevents much more than 2k yards with sea level air density. It really starts to peter out around there. I'd start with a 26" or longer barrel of 9.5 twist or faster to get the most out of it.
