Bill Adolf Question: Harmonics, So if I understand you I should glass bed it. Then disregard the free floating and try to find a pressure point as far up the stock as possible? Or just bed all the way up the stock? Reply
Rex: Howdy! There are several ways to 'skin this cat'. It depends on your exact rifle and how it resonates. Glass bedding the action is always recommended. Free floating the barrel is USUALLY the best way to go with conventional sporting stock designs. This minimizes deflection due to forward stock tension from resting the rifle. However, IF this method doesn't work, one can try introducing tension on the barrel forward of the receiver. This is what you may have to do if you have a military stock configuration. If that doesn't work, one can fully glass bed the stock to the entire barreled action.
