So . . . . finishing up school and trying to start a small business has left me not wanting to pay for a new competition rifle and I don't want to run my 6.5 Desert Tech in this next season; I want to run a traditional setup. So I thought I would get some recommendations from some like minded individuals.
I could trade for something, try and re-barrell a Surgeon 308, or just shot what i got.
All advice and solutions are welcome.
Trying to start a small business is time consuming and expensive. I'm not in any way experienced in PRS type matches and have never shot one. My experience is in smallbore 3-position. That said, if I were in your shoes, not wanting to use the Desert Tech, seems to me the most bang for the buck would be to re-barrel that Surgeon to 6.5 Creedmoor. No other changes would be needed. Just a barrel swap, and you can get quality factory ammo at a reasonable price. Leaves more time to devote to business instead of reloading.
I was going to go into a long winded speech about reasons, setting priorities and eliminating choices systematically, but Copperhead put it more succinctly. :-)
There's always the option to rebarrel but if your .308 is a solid shooter with plenty of life left in it then save the modification munniez and run it as is if it's in the configuration you need. Add fun or challenge to the game, not the gun.
I have shot a guys desert tech at a couple times. I thought it ingeniously designed, and I would have bet money on it being a great factory rifle to run in a PRS event. Isn’t the compactness and ballance point an advantage? Out of curiosity could you tell me why your looking to change it up please.
