The 101 series puts a lot together but the total cost of everything in there is not something I have laying around and need to incrementally get into this activity. Trying to prioritize my investments as I enter into this hobby, is this a fair way to prioritize the order I invest using the 308 hunting rifle I currently have?
Training Course
Practice Ammo
Ballistic Table Construction Tools (Chronograph/Atmospheric Measurement)
Scope Tracking Quality
Ammunition Quality & Reloading Equipment
Stock Fit
Trigger Quality
Mounting & Bedding
Barrel Quality
Depends on the status of each of those things. How good a shot are you at 100yrds, do you know how to put a good ballistics table together, is your existing gun/scope/load up to the task, does your equipment have some shortcoming you've already noticed, etc... You know your status as well as anyone. You want all the parts of the system working their best or at least to a minimum of performance which is pretty high. Most rifles will outshoot most shooters right out of the box so generally, I'd pick the quality of ammo up to something that shoots better than you do, use an optic with a scaled reticle and solid tracking, make sure the gun fits you well, and then put your money in the place it'll make the most difference. Sometimes that place is 100yrd marksmanship training, sometimes it's something intense and more specialized. You know your status and your goals. Advice is only capable of being good when given with some useful frame of reference.
