I currently have a Savage Model 10 308 in an MDT HS3 chassis with a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP. I am wanting to upgrade to a more "premium" rifle and optic. Before I pulled the trigger on buying such an expensive piece, I would like some guidance. I've been watching your YouTube channel for the past couple of years and decided that there is hardly anyone that I will run across that will offer any better guidance than you.
I pretty much have a budget of $6,000 on a rifle (rifle only). I started out by looking at custom build rifles such as the GA Precision Crusader and rifles built by Accurate Ordinance. Then I moved on to considering rifles such as the Accuracy International AT, Sako TRG, and various Steyr rifles (I own a Steyr Pro Hunter and it is by far my favorite hunting rifle). Now for the past couple of months, I have been seriously considering the multi-caliber options out there such as the Barrett MRAD and Desert Tech SRS A1 (I am just unsure of how I would like the Desert Tech bullpup design).
The rifle that I am currently leaning toward getting is the Barrett MRAD. I believe that I would like to start by getting it in the 6.5 Creedmoor conversion. Later I would like to get a 338 Lapua conversion once my skills improve. What are your thoughts on this? Have you ever had any experience with the Barrett MRAD? If so, what do you think about it (likes and dislikes)?
As far as optics go, I think that I've narrowed it down to two options. I want a scope that has MOA adjustments and reticle. I also want a first focal plane scope. The Nightforce ATACR 5-25x56 F1 and the Kahles K624i 6-24x56 is the two in which I've narrowed it down to. What do you think about these choices? Which would you recommend? Any other recommendations?
I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time out of your day to read my post and reply back. Your professional opinion on this will be greatly appreciated.
