Was out with my brother this afternoon. Shooting his armalite dmr local 500yard range and had some new handloads cause huge issue. Had some berger 175gr otm pop out of seating depth and lock up the mag. I'm at a loss how do I correct the issue can I just crimp on the vld or do I need to buy a canalure machine and if I canalure how much will it screw with my bolt gun and charts?

check you neck tension, make sure your at at least 1 thousandths
So you can use neck tension instead of a full crimp in a semi auto
Yes. i assume you are using same die for bolt 308 and AR-10? i would recomend different dies. I run 1 thousandths in my bolt 308, and i run 3 thousands in my semi autos, 3 thousandths lets you have no crimp. Neck tension has to be higher to survive the violent semi auto action.
Goal was to make a round that is interchangable between semi auto and bolt gun like a custom m118 easier to feed the beast ya know
ahh, yes, i hear you. Well Id try running a .003 then and see what your velocities are. In theory they should change, I would imagine you would have higher pressure, maybe back off on the powder charge to compensate for that, hopefully the group doesnt open up. but you gotta test it to find out.
Will do right now im running 43gr of imr 4064 in norma brass fed gmm primers pushing berger 175 otms at 2700 out of a supressed 20 inch barrel
Its pretty hot but the agjustable gas system in the armalight handles it alright might have to rework it with new tension cause right now its under .001 just bearly holds the bullet
Thats good and hot, im currently having a bit of trouble with my 175 SMK's, sent a message to Rex to ask his advice. im only getting on my 20" 2340fps with Varget at 39 grains L.C. brass, its pretty slow, its lobbing it out there...but it shoots nice and im hitting 8" steel at 700 meters. Any hotter and the group opens up over an inch and i dont like it.
Ya .001 is to loose, thats all the issue is there, no worries easy fix!
Mine is a 700 sps aacsd and i had bad issues it was like 3 minutes out of the box put a supresser on it and it tightened up to about 1 minute hopping a new stock will get it down .75 or .5 pmac percision told me to try that shoot the rifle till its burned out and then build a custom i am so glad i met these guys
My bolt is a Savage 10, Sub MOA out of the box, glass bed, 168g A-max 44 grains Varget Lapua brass 2820fps, shoots a lazer compared to my SR25. Glass bed your action, get a lighter trigger, you should be fine with that 700. Theyre good shooters.
Whats your sr25 brothers armalite b shoots better than my bolt factory gmm 175gr grouping .625 out of box
My SR25 custom/Frankenstein. The 700 needs to be glass bed, free floated, and have a lighter trigger, in my experience thats standard modifications for any precision rifle im shooting. Let your handloads do the rest.
Thanks i apriciate the help im no expert just trying to get better and teach my bro along the way he hates the science and math part but he is a ghost in the woods
No prob! its all about how far down the rabbit hole you want to go, and its a very deep hole. lol. Happy shootin!
